13 Foods to Buy Organic
March 31, 2010 > 1 Comment
There are several opinions out there in cyberspace on what foods to eat, what foods not to eat, when to buy organic and when not to buy organic. But most will agree that there are a group of fresh foods that we should always try to buy organic. I’ll give you the list here.
Now keep in mind, that it is better to eat non-organic fresh vegetables than no vegetables at all. So I don’t suggest cutting out all of these fruits and vegetables if they are not available organically in your store. But perhaps it will help to cut down on the amount you purchase non organically and help you with your choices. If your store doesn’t sell organic grapes, but they do sell organic apples then eat more apples and occasionally buy grapes as a treat.
Buy Organic
- Peaches
- Apples
- Nectarines
- Strawberries
- Pears
- Cherries
- Raspberries
- Grapes
- Spinach
- Bell peppers
- Celery
- Potatoes
- Hot peppers
The reason it’s not best to eat of these particular non-organic fresh foods is because they tend to be heavily sprayed with pesticides. Some of these foods have greater ability to absorb the pesticides. Others have thin skin making it impossible to peel and the oil based pesticides cannot be completely washed off with water.
With the summer months coming it should be easier and more convenient for us to get fresh organic (or close to organic) vegetables from the Farmer’s Market and roadside stands. But remember, if not buying organic consider the list above and choose accordingly.
Healthy eating!
