Book Basket: 3rd week of June
June 18, 2009 > 3 Comments
I had intended to post my book list the last 2 weeks – the first week I forgot and before I could post the next week I got a call from the library reminding me I had 25 books overdue. Once I was home and in recovery {$17 non budgeted “donation”} I realized that I yet again missed the Book Basket link-up.
So here’s our list from this week. It’s short because I would only allow 2 books at a time per child in the event I was late again it would only be a few dollars. Hopefully the big red circle on the calendar will serve as a reminder that I’ve already donanted to needy causes this year.
- A Bear Called Paddington, Michael Bond – All my children love to read the Paddington Bear series. They said that this particular book was even funnier than the others. I like books that all the children can enjoy, both my 7 yr olds, 10 yr old and 12 yr old enjoy reading the humorous tales of Paddington bear.
- The Borrowers, Mary Norton – Another favorite that will have me checking out the rest of the books in the series. A funny tale of miniature “little people” who live in “human beans” houses and the adventures and problems they face.
- King of the Wind, Marguerite Henry – Joy’s daughter suggested to Kaitlyn that she read Marguerite Henry’s books. We were excited to find that our library had a large selection of her books. Kaitlyn read King of the Wind in one day. A review from the School Library Journal has this to say, “Grade 4-8 The Newbery Medal-winning tale about a stallion, a stable boy, and their globe-spanning adventures.”
- Insect World – A Child’s First Library of Learning – I’m always happy when the children bring me educational books and ask to check them out. uh…YEAH! I’ve always liked this particular set of encyclopedia type books and we own several ourselves.
- Home Education, Charlotte Mason – I’ve been wanting to check this book out forever and found it in the cart to be re-shelved. Hopefully I’ll actually get a chance to read through it! There is so much online about Charlotte Mason and her methods of learning, but I’ve never actually read a book she wrote. I’ll let you know how I like it!

Paddington and the Barrowers are some of our favorites too. I’ll have to check out King of the Wind, because my daughter loves horses.

Great list! We’re also fans of Paddington and The Borrowers.
