Breast is Best

Another reason why breastfeeding is *the* perfect, God given food for babies & toddlers.
Rocket fuel chemical found in baby formula
Note that it says iodine is added to offset the effects of the perchlorate.
In ’05 baby formula produced by Nestle’ was pulled off the shelves due to too much iodine.
The article also states that milk based formulas had a higher percentage of the perchlorate suggesting soy formula would be a safer bet. Consider here the dangers of soy formula.
Obviously there are situations when breastfeeding is not successful, but do we trust and rely on major industries, the CDC and the FDA to do what’s best for our children?
I know if my children had a few sips of antifreeze I would not respond calmly, (would actually freak totally out
) but why do we let other people put poisons in our foods and feel safe & secure that “they” deemed it at safe levels?
In our society & culture we are so very dependent on what “they” say is safe for us to consume. I encourage you and your families that whenever possible study, stay informed, step outside the box and don’t trust everything (or anything?) that “they” tell you. “They” have no interest in you or your family, it’s all big business & $$.
Again, back to the formula, do we have any other options? YES! You can MAKE your own formula.
Keepin’ it real, I have never made my own baby formula but I do know plenty of people that have (here’s one lady I read after). 4 of my children have consumed formula and as far as I know they have no damaging side effects, but that would be a very hard thing to determine…Thankfully, I am blessed to still be nursing my 18 mnth old. It was not easy and I remember those first couple of months crying and so tempted to quit, but I was determined…And I am so very happy I have. She has by far been the healthiest baby we’ve had.
I realize this was a bit of a rant and a jumbled mess of thoughts but hopefully it will cause us to think and consider these things…

I love this post! It amazes me what is in our food that we don’t even realize!
I was fortunate enough to nurse both of my sons until they were about 1.5 years old. It was very difficult in the beginning, but so worth it to me!
With all of the new announcements coming out about our food being contaminated with this or the other, it makes me really rethink how I feed my family. Unfortunately, I am not willing to make make everything from scratch. I would love to, but just don’t have it in me at this point in my life. But, I am being more thoughtful about what we eat.

Wow Amanda. I was pretty sure you were ready to stop when you left Knoxville. Susannah is a doll. I sure miss her.

Lula, Yes, I was headed that direction but I realized that I was mostly feeling pressure to quit from others. There is just nothing unnatural about nursing ’til at least 2. Every society but ours does so. That was always my plan from the beginning. So after she got sick with pink eye my weaning exclusively went out the door
She only nurses when it’s dark outside now.
