Frugal and Fun Family Daycations

June 24, 2009 > 2 Comments

My husband and I are the youth leaders at our church and we love working with the children and teens. The interesting thing about our youth group is the ages range from 5 – 13 years. We have been able to successfully bridge the gap in our Sunday School classes, but recently we’ve been faced with another challenge – planning a youth outing.

Typically our youth have only had one trip or so each year, but we’re hoping to change that. We’d like to take the children on a Daycation every couple of months. But to find activities that would be of interest to a 5-year- old as well as a teenager is a challenge. Not only is it important to find activities that are of interest to all, but it is also important to keep the cost within the church’s budget.

To help me with this I obtained a copy of the book Kids Love Tennessee. This is an awesome guidebook filled with affordable and even FREE attractions. Each Kids Love ______ travel guide has the state divided into geographical zones and provides contact information, website, admission prices, and detailed reviews of each attraction. There are also suggested places for lodging and restaurant reviews for each region.

I was able to look through this book and get ideas of places that would be 1) an easy day trip, 2) affordable, and 3) of interest to all age groups. Although we have lived in Tennessee for over 12 years I was surprised at how many attractions I had never heard of!

Thanks to Kids Love Tennessee we will have kid-tested ideas for Daycations for years to come!

Our family also homeschools, so I will be using the travel guide to plan field trips and outings for our family. Because the book is divided into different regions it will be easy to plan a great family trip using only one tank of gas. And because we are living on a tight budget like a lot of families are these days, I can also plan a trip that requires little to no admission prices. Combine that with a packed lunch and I can easily afford a memory-filled Daycation with my family of seven!

To see if there is a Kid’s Love ______ travel guide for your state visit Michele’s website. Each guide is affordable and will pay for itself on your family’s first Daycation. Where else can you find so much information in one place? This guidebook will save you hours of searching the internet for that perfect destination. On her website Michele also has travel tips and products to make traveling fun, educational and entertaining and more! We had a book like this for Kansas City that was really helpful. I just got one similar to this for So Cal. Great ideas!

Sounds neat, but none for my state.

    I could probably write one!
