I’m baaaaack!

Hello! I wanted everyone to know that we are moved and in the process of settling in. Sounds so much easier in writing than in reality.
I think most everything is unpacked except for books and a couple more kitchen boxes of dishes that I just don’t have room for.
We had our last service at our church Sunday morning. How sad it was to leave our faithful core…We’ve been through so many phases of our life with them. We joined Victory when I was 19 yrs old. We had no children then…I’ve had all 5 of our children while there.
My Dad has been gone 10 years now and I have memories of when HE was a member…Such as the time a snake had made it’s way into the building and my Dad spied it inching down the side aisle during the pastor’s sermon…My Dad slowly eased down the pew until he collapsed in the floor (we all thought he’d had a heart attack!) but jumped up quickly having CAUGHT that snake!
I remember when my husband was voted in as pastor…How excited I was to be a “Pastor’s Wife.” I thought being a “Pastor’s Wife” was such a glorious job full of decorating, planning fellowships, and entertaining…While I did plenty of that, I learned that there is so much more to being the wife of a Pastor. I wish I could say I was the perfect example, but obviously I can’t…I just pray that I start this new chapter of my life having learned from my mistakes and maybe be a help and encouragement to others.
I remember all I put Mrs. Donna through
She watched the children through so many emergencies and trips to the E.R…strep throat, our miscarriage, Nathan’s meningitis, my aunt Gail dying of cancer, the tornado that cut off our electricity for days… She listened to me whine through the ordeal of moving the trailer (parsonage) into place. What an ordeal that was! Thank-you Mrs. Donna
I remember each and every person who have come and gone…most I was sad to see go.
I remember all the time my husband spent praying for the church and it’s members, the time he spent preparing sermons. He gladly sacrificed his time to devote to the ministries of the church. He loved being Pastor…Sure he got discouraged at times, but he loved pastoring Victory.
I am so thankful for the good memories and I hope to have learned something from the not-so-good.
What a blessing it is that we have the freedom to worship the Lord, to sing, to hear preaching as often as we like. Please, take advantage of that freedom, don’t take it for granted…It may not always be that we’re able to attend a church where the Word is proclaimed loudly and the hymns are sung with gusto…a church that has padded pews, heat/air, nurseries, bathrooms etc…We may not be far off from situations such as are in other countries in which they meet in secret if they are able to meet at all. How silly the excuses are that are given for being unfaithful to church when compared to the sacrifices that were made years ago by our Baptist forefathers, sacrifices that are still being made all over the world. But alas, if I’ve learned one thing from our time in the ministry it is “People do what they *want* to do.” If you *want* to go to church, if you *want* to be faithful, if you *want* to do these things you *will* find a way…I’ve rarely found a person give the same excuses they give for missing church for going to work, a sporting event, extra-curricular activities, visiting with relatives, etc…etc…etc…
Remember our freedoms we still have and take advantage of those freedoms.
O.K. I’ll get off my soap box…:) I really wasn’t intending to say much but I let my fingers do the talking
