blog e1291827820110 AboutMy Greatest Blessings: Fall 2010

I am a wife to my dear husband of 17 years and a second-generation homeschooling Mom to 6 children: ages 18 months – 15 yrs. Four boys, two girls.

Our main goal as parents is to teach and train our children to please the Lord in everything they do and to seek His will for their lives. When choosing their activities and hobbies we keep this in mind. We believe that the local church is one of the most important areas of ministry and we along with our children are happy to be serving in whatever capacity our Pastor needs.

We try to live simply and frugally not just out of necessity but because we enjoy it! I love to search for a good bargain and we rarely pay full price for anything. Yard sales, thrift stores, 2nd hand stores and hand-me-downs supply us with most of our needs.

I love to cook and eating healthy is on our list of priorities, however in this season of life it is not always the top priority.
grind wheat and make our bread from scratch, and we try when possible to eat whole, clean foods. But to be real, I have to admit that with all the responsibilities of managing a large family I fail many times at living up to my own expectations.

I have homeschooled our children for 7+ years. I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way. OK…maybe I have imagined it just a time or two on really stressful days when nothing is going right…But we are committed to home educating and know that in the end the Lord will bless our efforts as the Bible says in Galatians 6:9 – And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
We have used several types of curricula through the years, but have settled for the foreseeable future on the Robinson Curriculum, tailored to suit our particular needs and expectations.

I am happiest when we are living on a schedule, everything is organized and the house is spotless, but I am learning to adapt to many little people and so I try not be so rigid when it comes to my expectations. However, I do enjoy cleaning, organizing, scheduling, list making, menu planning etc.

Reading is another interest of mine, but one that I don’t get much time for. My husband and I are both book junkies and have the bookshelves (and boxes more) to prove it. A perfect date for us is a coffee (him: mocha – me: white chocolate mocha) followed by a couple of hours in a used book store. I can’t remember the last time we looked at books and didn’t buy at least one! Now if I just had time to read them all!

I like to write about all the things mentioned above, but you certainly will find me blogging about other topics such as gardening, decorating, and basically anything you’d chat with a friend about.

These are just a few things about me, but as you visit here at Better is Little, hopefully you’ll get to know me even better!

Hi Amanda and family, I stumbled onto your site through the KJV forum that I joined yesterday. It’s always nice to see fellow like minded believers. I do, however, eat a lot of junk food. ;-)
