This is on our menu each Tuesday morning. It is a favorite of the children and a favorite of mine because it is so easy to mix up the night before and be ready to pop in the oven the next morning. But even if I forget and have to mix it up in the morning, it all goes into one bowl making clean-up a snap! …continue reading

The Blanket

January 6, 2012 > 5 Comments

In the evening our family loves to sprawl out in the den with a blanket. We keep a large stack of blankets under the coffee table for this reason. But there is one blanket that always gets nabbed first and then you hear groans from other family members when they have to settle for the remaining covers. I can usually bribe them to let me have this blanket. Thankfully, I live with chocoholics.

A friend of ours actually made this blanket as a baby shower gift, but William, at 18 months, does not fully appreciate the wonderfulness of his gift. So we’ve claimed it. But I am pretty sure that he’s well on his way to becoming a chocoholic too.

Feeling sorry for the rest of the family, I got the idea to make more of these blankets myself! They are so easy to make, I turned one out in less than an hour! I happen to have several fleece blankets and panels that we’ve collected through the years. Here’s how you can make your family The Blanket. …continue reading

Peanut Butter Tasty Kakes

December 23, 2011 > No Comments

A very sweet friend of mine introduced this tasty cake to me at a small church fellowship and was generous enough to share the recipe. Sadly enough, she took the leftovers home. Her small children (6 under age 6) were very concerned that Mrs. Amanda would take all their leftovers home! And after having more servings than I should have, I can see why they were so concerned about who would be getting the rest!

If you love chocolate and peanut butter, this is the dessert for you! …continue reading

Not Your Grandma’s Chicken and Dumplings

October 22, 2011 > 3 Comments

Of all the dishes I make, this is hands down my most requested recipe.

It is not something I make very often for us at home because of the less than healthy ingredients, but I very often serve this for out-of-town company or in a crock-pot for potluck meals. If it is for company here at home, I like to serve green beans as a side dish to maybe stretch the meal a bit.

Never when this is made for guests, do I have leftovers – Never. Ever.

My Chicken and Dumplings are not really a recipe per se, but more of a method. It can easily be halved, doubled or tripled. Just keep the method the same. …continue reading

fall road Conversation…

The other day while running errands with our younger four, the conversation was what it always is…endless.

I enjoy this time with the little ones, because when the older two children are with me they tend to get more of my attention on “important” subjects like how to save the world or some such while the younger four engage themselves with conversations about what they’re reading, what they recently watched or simply playing.

I got so tickled at the continuous stream that I started jotting down on a legal pad…

“Mommy, what if were driving across and the bridge cracked in half and we were driving along in the water?!”

“Mom what is sodium?”

“Salt.”

“Well, then, why do they call it sodium?”

“Mom, is this pie healthy?”

“Mom, listen to these ingredients…!”

“Mommy, do trees think?”

“Yeah! Do trees have brains?!”

“Mommy, is there such a thing as a tree doctor?”

“Mommy, can you like make your own driveway? Like get gravel and dig your own?”

“Where do you even get gravel from!?”

“Mommy, do you think the world will ever run out of gravel?”

Of course this stream is interjected with lots of “do you remembers” and “Hey, Mom! Look at that!”

The 1 year old had only one thing to offer with a constant song of “Daaaaaaaaaddy…Daaaaaaddy…Daaaaaaady…”

People think we’re crazy for being blessed with so many…and some days I might agree!

But then I realize, one day this will only be a memory…an entry in my blog. And then I think they’re crazy! Why would you ever want it to end!?

If you think my hands are full…you should see my heart. ♥

Update of sorts…

October 14, 2011 > 2 Comments

Would you believe me if I told you that I have been busy? And that because of being busy, I’ve not blogged?

Seriously, I have been astonished of late, how I can stay so busy all day, moving from one task to another and my to-do list doesn’t get shorter – it gets longer! Blogging is on that to-do list – and you guessed it – it’s still not crossed through.

So I decided that I was going to post no matter what – I’ll be right back after I go rouse my children from their warm beds………………………….

Ok. They’re up.

The first thing I wanted to update you on is how well I liked the homemade laundry detergent I posted below. I made it a couple of times and it does get your clothes clean without the use of harsh detergents or fragrances. And it is much simpler and quicker than the liquid glop I’ve made before. It’s a keeper. My next post (fingers crossed) will be recipes I’m using for dishwashing detergent, hand soap, shampoo, deodorant, baby wipes etc.

Secondly, I promised in the comment section that I was going to offer more thoughts to the conversation on being a Controlling or Submissive wife. Please know that I’ve not forgotten about that. I most assureedly have not forgotten about this as it weighs heavy on my mind. I feel so inadequate to offer advice, as I still struggle in this area. Every time I fail, I think – “I can’t write about this!” – and then I don’t write about it. As if I wait long enough I will have attained perfection and can then instruct others. I don’t seek to instruct necessarily, but have a desire to please my Lord and my husband and know that you do to, so this is a conversation among like-minded ladies and I sincerely appreciate the comments. So keep looking and I will make a great effort to not delay much longer.

Excuse me while I see what my 1 year old is screaming about……………………………

He wanted his brother to carry him around. Simple fix!

Thirdly, look for more frequent posts showing linky love. There is so much out there on the web, that I just know you would appreciate some of my favorites. To start off with I would like to share with you this post on Homeschooling Blindspots. And even if you don’t homeschool, this is helpful for all parents and really gave me a lot to think about. A lot. It really is so true and so very easy to forget. I remember years ago listening to Denny Kenaston and while my husband and I couldn’t remember the title of any of his sermons or most of the content, one thing we’ve remembered this many years later – “Blessings is the key to obedience.” If we do everything we’re supposed to do to be a “good parent” but we don’t bless our children, like our children, invest time in our children – unfortunately we’ve failed and we will not see them continue on with the values we tried so hard to instill in them.

A huge “thank you” to those of you who continue to read despite my on again off again blogging. It just means that I have an extremely busy and full life – Amen! – I wouldn’t have it any other way! {{{Hugs to you}}}

Now, let’s get off this computer and go live some life and enjoy your family – today could be your last chance to!
