Souper Bowl Sunday

We don’t do much for the Super Bowl…hmmmm…come to think of it we actually don’t do anything for it! But I couldn’t resist the play on words so here is a favorite Taste of Home recipe I’ve cooked for over 11 yrs. This is the first homemade chili I ever made.
My Daddy, a few months before he died 11 yrs ago, tasted my very first batch and raved over it. And I’ve never felt the need to switch chili recipes. It is a favorite around here and I’ve shared the recipe with quite a few. Hope you enjoy!
Slow-Cooked Chili
SERVINGS: 10
Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
- 2 cans (16 ounces each) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 2 garlic clove, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons salt, optional
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- Shredded cheddar cheese, optional
Directions:
In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain.
Transfer to a 5-qt. slow cooker. Add the next nine ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4 hours. Garnish individual servings with cheese if desired.Yield: 10 servings.
This is a great dish for serving to large crowds. One church fellowship I made 3 large crockpots of this chili and made what we call around here – Frito Banditos. Corn chips, chili, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, olives, onions etc… Great tasting, filling and definitely a crowd-pleaser!

I love it that this includes only real ingredients – no mixes. Makes it easy and inexpensive.
