Tackle It Tuesday ~ Baking

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

I have many tasks to accomplish today, such as trying to at least get the potatoes and onions in the garden before it rains tonight, reporting the children’s grades (I keep procrastinating!), preparation of meals, homeschooling, laundry, & house cleaning etc…but the one task I am most excited about today is baking! So that will be my topic for Tackle It Tuesday.

I have several friends that grind their own wheat and after several years I have joined ranks with them. It wasn’t really my idea as I was actually quite terrified of making the commitment to actually bake all of our bread needs (grinding is the easy part!)…But my husband did some research and studying on the health benefits of using fresh ground flour and next thing you know the UPS man shows up with my very first Wonder Mill grain mill. I ordered Prairie Gold grain from Wheat Montana and it came yesterday! I didn’t have time to make a yeast bread or rolls but wanted to make *something* to go with supper, so I made biscuits. And yes they were yummy and yes I was PROUD of myself J

Anyway, today I am going to tackle more breads. Maybe even a dessert bread like cinnamon rolls!

I will update this post later with pictures of my successes (hopefully no failures) later tonight and over time I will share the recipes.

Do you have a job or several jobs to tackle today? If so , why not blog about them and “join all the happy, peppy, people” over at 5 Minutes for Mom for Tackle It Tuesday and There Is No Place Like Home for Show and Tell Friday!

P.S. Don’t think I’m nuts, but yes I Love Lucy. J I couldn’t resist the quote! J Have a blessed day!!

Christy, we talked about getting one for quite awhile, but as you read I wasn’t convinced I wanted to add the extra work to my already full schedule. Thankfully we got an unexpected tax return that enabled us to make the purchase. Occasionally you can find someone that wants to get a different model and perhaps you could get on second hand? Either way, I hope you get one soon. :) Amanda

Yeah, I am really excited for you! I would have purchased a Wonder Mill but they were not making them when I bought mine 4 years ago (they were changing from the Whisper Mill to the Wonder Mill) Anyway, I love baking bread and everything else! Now that I am on bed rest my mom and dd are learning how to make everything with the WW flour and they love doing it to.
Can’t wait to see what you make.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your Wonder Mill looks like fun, I’ve never heard of it. I’ll be checking back to see how your breads turn out.

Hello! Thanks for stopping by my blog and nice to meet you too! So do you live in Crossville?
I am wanting to purchase my own grain mill as well They are great aren’t they! We are actually spring cleaning right now and de-cluttering getting rid of everything to have a big yard sale..and I am hoping to make enough money to buy a grain mill! Congrats on the mill! Hope it works great for you! It is one of the ones I have looked into buying as well.

Yes, we live in Crossville! I hope your yard sale is a success and you are able to purchase your grain mill. The Wonder Mill, according to my research is one of the best out there. I am glad they changed the name from “Whisper Mill” because it for sure isn’t quiet!
If you are nearby I’d love to come to your yard sale! :)

Visiting from Kelli’s Show and Tell!

    Oh, what a useful item!

I MUST tell you about something you can do with this too – there is a KILLER bread recipe/cookbook that has radically changed the way I make bread FOREVER! its the Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a day. You can find out more about it at http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com (tell them BARB sent you!) Be sure to go to YouTube and search artisan bread in five minutes a day – then watch the top video, gives you an interview with the authors and directions. SO simple and wonderful. They are currently writing a new cookbook on whole grains. Plus, on the blog site they give new ways to use the dough and also are terrific at answering questions too!

Thank you so much for sharing today!

Hi! I have a Magic Mill that my father gave me as a wedding present… ;) It’s an OLD one, but it’s still very effective. [I'm going to take a picture of it one of these days so I can make all the antique dealers jealous ;) ] I’d love to get a new, shiny one – but for now what we have works for us.
