Thursday Thirteen ~ Magazines

While I am looking out my window anxiously awaiting the rain for my thirsty garden, I thought I’d share with you the magazines that I either subscribe to or purchase regularly. I wish I could say I have the time to read them all, but alas, like all us mommys, I don’t. I have “storage areas” where I put magazines we’ve already read, so until I at least lightly read and glean the items I am interested in they pile up on my bedside table or beside my rocking chair. In a perfect world, I try to have them “read” before the next issue comes out.
Here goes:
We subscribe to these magazines:
1. An Encouraging Word ~ Love it!
2. Home School Digest ~ Love it!
3. Family Fun ~ Love this one, although it often leaves me feeling lame. 
The kids enjoy it but it leaves them feeling like mom is lame too
4. Taste of Home ~ A friend of my husband’s is always doing something nice for our family, a grandfather type, and for several years now has bought me a subscription to this magazine and each year buys me the “yearbook” allowing me to pass the magazines on to someone else!
5. The New American ~ My husband and 12 yr old boy love to read this one. I occasionally read an article here and there but this is mostly for the guys. They also have a great website with current news articles for the day. Check out what they are saying about the Swine Flu.
6. Hobby Farms ~ My “bestest” friend subscribed me to this one and I have really enjoyed this magazine. One of these days…
7. No Greater Joy ~ FREE!
8. Readers Digest ~ I don’t know why, but it appears we have a life time subscription to Reader’s Digest! We’ve taken this magazine for years and never paid a dime. I have called numerous times to straighten out the snafu but to no avail. They still keep comin’! :S
9. Stepping in the Light ~ While they no longer publish this magazine for girls, for about $45 you can purchase all the back issues. It is a wonderful magazines for girls about 9 and up with articles written by other girls and older ladies. A Titus 2 type magazine put out by S.M. Davis’ church.
These magazines we probably should subscribe, because we purchase them regularly:
11. Countryside
12. Grit ~ While I do love this magazine, I don’t buy it as often as I’d like to. I can only get it at one store here in town and they are often out of it and by the time I remember to go get one I am out of $$. But it is a good magazine a lot like Mother Earth News or Hobby Farms.
13. Southern Living ~ I can usually get past issues for free at our local library!

I haven’t heard of some of these. I’ll have to check these out especially the Stepping in the Light for my daughter.
